The land of the free.

I'm home!!! If you didn't know that by now you probably don't know me very well. So thanks for reading my blog, stranger!

It's been twenty-four days. Wow. Time flies when you're... studying.

Anyway, here are some updates on my departure from Mexico, arrival to the states, and current life.

My last full day in Mexico (Sunday, April 29th) was my nineteenth birthday! When I got home from church my family told me to go sit in my room and not come out until I was told. I felt like a princess locked up in her tower because my room is up on the third floor. Such cuties.

When I finally got to come down I was met with the biggest and most wonderful birthday party I will probably ever have. They decorated with balloons, made TONS of food, had an entire table of sweets, invited all my friends and their family. I couldn't have asked for anything better as a last memory with them. Here are some pictures.

At this point the fact that I was leaving was hitting home for all of us :(
Flower balloons!
A last family picture.
Then Carol picked me and all the other girls up, we went and stayed in an apartment really close to the bus station for the night, and headed out super early in the morning.

Here we are in the Mexico City airport after some hours of bus rides.

Bonnie and I trying to recreate a picture that we had taken when we got there four months earlier. Notice the change in skin color :)

After a while we had to say goodbye to Sara. Watching her walk away was really sad and quite teary. I miss that girl.

And then finally we got to leave! It was exciting, but really sad too. When we left the United States, I knew when I would be back. Who knows when the next time I'll be able to get back to Mexico will be? Very bittersweet.

After four hours on the plane we touched down in the United States of America. I can't put into words what it felt like to step off that plane and breathe fresh Utah mountain air. Wow. And we were only gone for four months! I can't even imagine being a missionary. Speaking of which, there was a Mexican missionary on his way to the Provo MTC on the same flight as us. We didn't talk to him, but it felt very fitting to watch someone begin their journey as we ended ours.

Then my sister and brother-in-law picked me up, we hugged and that whole deal, and I watched in awe as we drove pass the beauty and luxury of the United States. Big houses, nice lawns, huge buildings, windows without bars... I didn't fully realize how lucky I am to have been born in this country until I was back. Speechless.

And now, three weeks later, here I am! I'm living in a cute little apartment just south of campus, which I love. I'm getting to know my ward and they are great. Taking two classes - Spanish (easy as pie) and Book of Mormon (yay for religion in English!) - and they are going great. Trying to get healthy and bring my cholesterol down to a normal level after eating straight fried food for four months. And basically loving life!

I miss Mexico and the friends I made there with all my heart. I'll never forget all of the amazing ways they impacted me.

And I'm looking for my next chance to go back! (Think a summer medical internship).
